Springs Contemporary

Where Dark Architecture Meets Drenched Light

Modern two-story house with black wooden exterior, large windows, surrounded by brown and green landscaping, and a well-maintained lawn under a partly cloudy sky.

The Architecture of Grounded Elegance

Settled gracefully within the landscape, the Springs Contemporary home offers a powerful statement in the Mountain Modern vernacular. The architecture embraces a sophisticated, darker palette, presenting a striking contrast to the overwhelming natural light of its surroundings. The 3,800 square foot residence is defined by steeply pitched gables clad in dark, vertical wood siding, giving the structure a robust, commanding presence that feels deeply rooted in the valley floor.

This intentional massing is softened by large, grid-patterned, black-framed windows and doors. These expansive glass elements dissolve the barrier between the intimate domestic space and the sweeping views—particularly toward the golf course on the north side. The exterior features a prominent natural stone masonry chimney, adding a grounding, textural element that anchors the entire composition.

The Flaw of Livable Grandeur: An Edited Interior

The home's interior is a masterclass in understated elegance, centered on a light, warm palette of bright whites and light oak flooring. However, this is where the flaw of human comfort takes hold. The design strives for an art-filled, edited sanctuary, but the scale and perfection risk veering toward a gallery space, necessitating the plush, inviting textures and thoughtful details that ensure it remains authentically, profoundly livable.

Living room with a stone fireplace, a table with flowers in a glass vase, sofa, armchair, windows with curtains, and outdoor landscape views.

The Heart of the Home: A Marvelous Great Room

  • The Entry and Flow: The experience begins with a long, linear entryway, framed by three sets of stunning light wood double doors. This hallway leads directly into a marvelous great room, ensuring a seamless flow between social spaces.

  • The Living Room: Located just off the main entry, the living room is anchored by the floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, providing an essential rustic counterpoint to the contemporary design. Plush textures and deep-toned furnishings invite long conversations, while the presence of a telescope beside the immense window offers a moment of quiet, personal observation.

  • Dining and Kitchen: The dining area sits adjacent to the living space. The kitchen is a study in clean sophistication, where storage is smartly drawer-based to maintain sleek sightlines. The most essential work space—the stove—sits against the east wall with intentionally limited cabinets, keeping the north-facing views toward the golf course completely open. A tucked-away butler's pantry provides discrete utility for grand entertaining.

Private Sanctuaries and Vantage Points

The architectural layout deliberately separates the home’s functionality from its centers of repose, ensuring a sophisticated private life.

  • Main Floor Retreats: The Primary Suite is thoughtfully placed on the main floor, ensuring immediate, private access for the owners. This level also includes a practical laundry room and a powder room.

  • The Office and Patio: Directly across the entry hall is a small, dedicated office. Beyond this, a door leads to the back patio, which can also be accessed via the kitchen.

  • Upstairs Separation: The upstairs is designed for guests and leisure. It features two additional guest bedrooms, a dedicated small office nook, and a media room. The ultimate indulgence is the large covered porch accessible from the media room, which offers a commanding, panoramic vantage point over the golf course and surrounding valley.

The Springs Contemporary home is a testament to the power of contrast: a robust, dark shell containing an interior saturated with light, warmth, and curated comforts. It does not merely observe its surroundings; it offers the most artful, deeply rooted, and luxuriously livable way to experience the wild character of the mountains.
